Art Deco 14kt Carved Intaglio Amethyst & Pearl Ring
The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce an image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax.
A simply beautiful carved amethyst ring from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! Resting in the center is a single, large faceted rectangular amethyst stone which is set in a 14kt white gold setting. The intaglio face of the amethyst bears the profile of a hand carved woman. The amethyst is bezel set and surrounded by a twisted yellow gold wire frame along with a natural seed pearl border. The mounting of the ring is made of 14kt white gold and is wonderfully detailed with ornate wirework. The inside shank of the ring is stamped "14K". This fabulous Art Deco ring would make a gorgeous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The rings rectangular shaped setting measures slightly less than 3/4" at its widest point, a little less than 7/8" at the tallest point and has a depth of 1/4". It has a generous finger size 8.5 but could easily be resized.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold mounting or to the amethyst stone and all of the pearls are intact.
