Art Nouveau Riker Brothers 18kt Repousse Sapphire Bracelet
Not many people are aware that Newark, New Jersey was a major hub for the manufacture of jewelry from the late 1800's until the 1950's. One of the leading companies, the Riker Brothers, has an early history that dates back to 1846. Their pieces are quite sought after and still remain highly collectible today.
This gorgeous bangle bracelet, from the Art Nouveau (ca1900) era, is a wonderful example of the Riker Brothers talent. Known for their attention to detail, this vibrant 18kt yellow gold piece is a slip-on style bangle and is decorated in a unique buckle motif. The design covers the outer surface of the entire bracelet and dispersed evenly around the bracelet are 4 vibrant, bezel-set sapphires. The inside of the bangle is marked "18K" and bears the hallmark Riker Brothers signature "R" with a sword through it. A magnificent bracelet, it would look lovely worn by itself or with similar bracelets and would rest comfortably on a small to average size wrist.
Measurements: The wrist opening of the bracelet measures approximately 2 1/2" wide and 2 1/4" tall. The surface measures slightly more than 3/8" at its widest point and slightly more than 1/8” at its thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is not apparent damage to the gold and all of the sapphires are intact.
