Late Art Deco S/S Star Sapphire Maltese Cross Pendant
A gorgeous Maltese cross pendant from the late Art Deco (ca1930) era! This beautiful piece is particularly large in size and made of sterling silver. The cross displays an ornate design of flowers, crosses, and twisted wirework and at the center is a bezel-set, cabochon star sapphire. The stone has wonderful, pearly blue color and a striking star that can be seen from different angles. The back of the cross is engraved with a gorgeous floral motif, and is stamped “950” and “JERUSALEM”. The detail of this 3-demensional piece is simply exquisite and it would make a perfect addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs approximately 3 1/8" long, is 2 1/4" at its widest point and has an approximate depth of slightly more than 1/2" at its deepest point. The bail measures 7/8" long and slightly less than 1/2" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting or bail and the sapphire is intact.
