Late Victorian Sterling Banana Perfume Bottle & Chain

Product SKU
MILB22

A very unusual late Victorian (ca1905) sterling perfume bottle and chain compilation. With a very unique design, this sterling silver perfume bottle is in the shape of a banana! The 3-demensional pendant is hinged at the stem and flips open to reveal rounded sterling cap. The cap unscrews easily which is where a woman would have put her favorite perfume. Just under the hinge of the banana is a sterling ring, which attaches the piece to lovely vintage sterling silver chain. The chain is comprised of long, wonderfully detailed and ornate links. Alternating with the larger links are long sections of small silver rings. At the back of the chain is a spring clasp, which is stamped “925”, “61 AR”, and “MADE ITALY”. The side of the banana is stamped with 5 different English hallmarks, including an anchor and “L&S”. This rare piece would make a beautiful addition to any collection!

Measurements: The scent bottle measures approximately 2 1/4" at its tallest point, 1/2" at the widest point, and slightly more than 3/8" at the deepest point. The chain measures 32.5" long. Each of the long ornate links measures 3/4" long, slightly more than 1/4" wide, and less than 1/8” thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the scent bottle and chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there are no significant dents or scratches in the bottle and the topper screws on easily and securely. There is no apparent damage to the sterling links and the clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition.
