Victorian Large 14kt Pietra Dura Locket
Pietra Dura is an art-historical term for the technique of using small, exquisitely cut and fitted, highly-polished colored stones to create what amounts to a painting in stone. The stonework is assembled together so precisely that the contact between each section is practically invisible.
A beautiful large oval shaped Victorian (ca1880) Petra Dura locket! The lovely blue, orange, yellow and white floral motif is inlaid in the black stone background. The design is so delicate that it almost appears to be a painting. The back of the locket has a beveled glass that opens vertically to reveal your favorite photo. The jump ring is 14kt gold, while the other findings appear to be gold filled. Unusual and beautiful, this piece would make a stunning addition to any collection of lockets!
Measurement: The locket measures 2 1/4" in length, 1 1/2" at the widest point, and 3/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no damage to the Pietra Dura stones on the locket or to the metal. The locket glass lifts easily and closes securely, however, there is a small scratch in the glass which would not be noticeable once a photo is inside.
