Victorian 14kt Agate Horseshoe & Horse Head Fob Necklace
An absolutely fabulous collection of fobs from the late Victorian (ca1900) era! This stunning piece displays three 14kt yellow gold fob pendants: 2 horseshoe cigar cutters and 1 horse head fob. Both horseshoes have 6 inlaid, agate and lapis stones on their face, and have a movable hinge at the top. In the center are sharp cutters which allow them to cut a cigar when they are pinched together. Each horseshoe has lovely coloring, with hues of blue, black, grey, and white, while the other horseshoe has hues of brown, black, and orange. The horse head fob shows strong detail in his flowing mane and facial features. He rests on a gold oval base that is decorated with a twisted rope-like design around the top. All 3 fobs pendants hang from a gorgeous Victorian 14kt gold, handmade chain, which has small barrel shaped links. Completing the necklace is a spring ring at the back of the Victorian chain. The horsehead fob is stamped “14K” on the side of its neck, while both horseshoes are stamped “PAT OCT” and “580”. It is a wonderful example of Victorian artistry and would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The gold chain measures approximately 18 1/2" long. The horse hangs approximately 1 1/2" long, is 3/4" at the widest point and has a depth of a little more than 1/2". Each horseshoe hangs 1” long, is slightly more than 3/4" wide, and 1/8” thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the chain and pendants is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the chain and the attached spring ring is secure and in good working condition. Besides normal surface wear there is no serious damage to the three fobs. There are a couple very minor chips in the inlaid stones, which is not unusual for a piece from this age.
