Victorian 14kt Carnelian Family Crest Intaglio Ring
A signet ring can be represented with an intaglio, which is created by carving below the surface of a stone or by a simple smooth seal. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.
This gorgeous signet ring is absolutely exceptional. From the Victorian (ca1880) period, this lovely ring has a large, rectangular-shaped carnelian with an intaglio carved into the center. The hand carved image portrays a highly detailed family crest. The carnelian stone is bezel set in a vibrant 14kt yellow gold mounting and has wonderful, rich orange color which compliments the yellow gold setting beautifully. The inside of the ring is marked "14K" along with a makers mark. It's a fantastic ring and would make a stunning addition to any collection!
Measurements: The carnelian intaglio and gold bezel setting measures slightly more than 7/8" tall, 3/4" wide, and rests 1/4" atop your finger when worn. The ring is a size 7.25 but could easily be resized.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the carnelian intaglio.
