Victorian 14kt & Gold Quartz Horseshoe Ring
Gold-in-quartz was formed while the earth was still in its molten state. During the cooling and solidification process, veins of gold became trapped with the crystals of quartz in the mine. This created a very dramatic contrast between the white quartz and the yellow of the gold. Jewelry made from gold quartz became quite a fashion statement of the 1880's.
This fabulous gold quartz ring is a stunning example of the Victorian (ca1880) era! A lucky horseshoe motif, a popular style during the Victorian period, is at the center of the ring. The horseshoe is inlaid with gold quartz and onyx separated by 14kt gold. Around the border of the horse shoe is 7 flat "nail heads". An engraved beaded design is along the shoulder of the band on either side. This ring may appeal to either a man or woman, and could easily be resized if needed.
Measurements: The ring measures approximately a size 9 1/2. The horseshoe measures approximately 1/2 " wide and 1/2 " long.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. The gold on the horseshoe has some wear which is not unusual for a piece from this era. The gold quartz is smooth and in fine condition with a nice gold vein that matches the band.
