Victorian 14kt Tortoise Shell & Tourmaline Link Necklace
Now a banned material, Antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectable. This tortoise shell piece has a beautiful and bold look and is a wonderful example of antique tortoise shell jewelry. With a very unusual design, this gorgeous hand carved necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The chain consists of smooth, rounded tortoise shell links that connect to one another by a long tortoise shell bar. Set in the center of each rounded link is a cabochon tourmaline stone which is bezel-set in 14kt yellow gold. The chain comes together at a 14kt yellow gold clasped wire hook at the back of the piece. On the underside of one tortoise shell link is a gold plaque, which is stamped. This beautiful necklace is very unusual and would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The tortoise chain measures approximately 20" long. The rounded links measure 1" long, 3/4" at the widest point and a little more than 1/8" thick. The bar links measure 5/8” long and slightly less than 1/4" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Beside normal surface wear there is no apparent damage to the tortoise shell links or gold, and all of the tourmaline stones are intact. The hook clasp is secure and in good working condition.
