An incredible and extremely large gold locket from the Victorian era (ca1880)! This wonderful piece is made of 15kt yellow gold with a stunning raised enameled snake design. On the face of the locket is an extremely detailed and 3-dimensional image of an enameled snake which is twisted around a textured tree branch. The enameling is black in color and rests within the scales of the snake. At the top of the head is an old Rose Cut diamond along with 2 Rose Cut diamond eyes on either side. The snakes mouth is slightly open and a curled, slithering tongue sticks out. The tree branch is detailed and textured with leaves and a single pearl acorn. Surrounding the locket on both sides is a textured border. The inside of the locket opens to reveal two places for your favorite photographs. At the top of the locket is a wide fluted bail which would fit perfectly on a Victorian gold chain. This incredible design is simply stunning and would make a great addition to any collection!

Measurements: The locket measures approximately 2 3/4" long from the bottom of the locket to the top of the bail, 1 5/8" wide and 7/8" thick. The inside of the bail measures 3/8" long and 1/4" at the widest point.

Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no serious damage to the gold and all of the diamonds are intact. There is some normal wear on the back surface of the locket and the enameling on the snake is not perfect; neither is uncommon for a Victorian piece.
