Victorian Huge 18kt, Crystal, Diamond & Garnet Bug Pendant
An absolutely fabulous rock quartz crystal pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This lovely piece is comprised of a single plaque of rock quartz crystal, which is particularly large in size. The crystal is oval shaped and has a slightly concave face and faceted edges. Riveted into the center of the plaque is a marvelous beetle made of 18kt yellow gold. The bug has a body made of a single tiger's eye stone and 6 sprawling legs. The legs are topped with sterling silver and encrusted with 20 old Rose Cut diamonds. Simple antennae sprout out of the top of the head which is detailed with 2 Rose Cut diamonds along with 2 small faceted rubies as eyes. Two seed pearls rest on the back of the bug and 5 additional Rose Cut's peek out at the bottom. The pendant has a wonderful 3-dimensional look with lovely detail throughout. Riveted into the top of the piece is a large fluted bail that is made of 18kt yellow gold and detailed with a large sized cabochon garnet. It's a simply magnificent piece and would make any collection complete!
Measurements: The rock quartz crystal plaque measures approximately 2" long, is a little more than 1/4" wide and and is about 5/8" thick from the back to top of cabochon tiger's eye stone. The bail measures approximately 5/8" tall and a little more than 1/2" wide.
Condition: The pendant is in excellent condition. There is no apparent damage to the crystal plaque or the tiger's eye or garnet stones. The gold bail and setting are in excellent condition and all of the diamonds and pearls are intact.
