Victorian Etched Sterling Silver Locket & Book Chain
A fabulous sterling etched book chain and locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This sterling silver book chain is handmade and has alternating shaped links making it a fairly wide but flat chain. The front of the chain has an exquisite floral design which is etched into the surface of each link and the back of the chain is a smooth silver. The sterling locket shares a complimentary, intricate etched design with an ivy leaf motif. The design covers the entire front surface of the locket and is surrounded by a small beadwork border and a rectangular cutout frame. That back of the locket has a simple smooth surface and several hallmarks including the letters "A&L", "b", a lion and an anchor. The inside of the locket opens to reveal 2 places for your favorite photographs. The locket hangs from a sterling fluted bail which connects to the spring ring at the center of the beautiful book chain. It is a wonderful example of Victorian artistry and would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The sterling book chain measures approximately 18 7/8" long, is a little less than 3/4" at the widest point and 1/8" thick. The inside of the spring ring has a diameter of 1/2". The locket hangs approximately 2 3/4" long, is 1 1/2" wide and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the chain and locket is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the book chain and the attached spring ring is secure and in good working condition. The locket has a few minor dents on the back of it which aren't seen when the locket is worn. There is also some normal wear on the surface of the silver which is not uncommon for a Victorian piece.
