Victorian Gilted & 14kt Bohemian Garnet Star Earrings
Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewelry production. The garnets were often placed close together in an effort to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than when they were set singularly. Most often, bohemian garnet jewelry was set in a closed back setting made of rose gold gilt over silver; this method is sometimes referred to as 'garnet gold'.
A pair of gorgeous fiery red Bohemian garnet earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Hanging from a modern 14kt yellow gold leverback is a medium sized star of hand faceted garnets. Within the center of the star is a single faceted round stone which is surrounded by 5-points of smaller faceted garnets. The star hangs from a single, round garnet surmount and all of the stones are set in a closed back yellow gold gilt over silver setting. Each leverback earring wire is stamped "14KT". These bohemian garnet earrings are simply exceptional, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurement: Each earring hangs approximately 1 1/8" long, a little less than 3/4" at the widest point and has a depth of 1/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the bohemian garnets, gilted setting or to the 14kt gold earring wires.
