Victorian Hand Carved Ivory Chain & Locket
A magnificent and unusual ivory necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gorgeous piece has a chain and locket made of hand carved ivory. The chain is very long in length and made of smooth interlocking links of carved ivory. The links come together and attach to unique ivory topper which connects the large locket. The face of the locket has the hand carved ornate initials “MR” in a lovely scrolled design, while the back of the locket is smooth ivory. The locket opens to reveal two places, which are covered in glass, to hold favorite photographs. The necklace clasps at the back and has a safety chain for added security. It's a magnificent and unusual piece from the Victorian era and would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The chain measures approximately 22 inches long. The locket hangs approximately 2 3/8" tall, 1 5/8" wide and is slightly less than 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the ivory necklace is excellent. Amazingly, there are no apparent chips in the ivory and the locket closes easily and securely. One of the glass covers inside of the locket is cracked, but this can easily be replaced.
