Victorian Huge 14kt & Rock Quartz Crystal Spinner Fob
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more plaques which can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.
A gorgeous spinner fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The extra large rock quartz crystal fob hangs horizontally and has 3 smooth faces. It hangs from a lovely 14kt rose gold repousse spinner which is riveted into each side of the crystal. The corners and edges of the rock quartz are faceted and the stone is triangular in shape giving it a prism-like effect. The spinner framework is highly detailed with a repousse surface and a scrolled topper. A mixed metals appliqué bouquet of flowers rests on each side of the crystal fob. A large gold spring ring is at the top where one can hang it from their favorite chain. The fob would look fabulous hanging from a long gold chain. It is absolutely gorgeous and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurement: The rock quartz crystal measures approximately 1 1/4" wide and each face measures 1 1/8" tall. The overall size of the spinner is approximately 1 3/4" wide and 2 1/8" tall from the top of the "O" ring to the flat bottom of the crystal.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the gold frame or bail. The crystal has some minor surface wear which is not noticeable when worn.
