Victorian Huge Sterling Silver Double Buckle Locket
A fabulous sterling locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gorgeous oval shaped sterling piece is ornately detailed with a double buckle design and hand etched accents. In the center of the locket are two raised buckles that have a 3-dimensional look. An etched paisley-like design rests on the face and the outside of the locket is surrounded by a cutout scalloped border. The back of the piece has a large etched design which incorporates what appears to be initials and the inside opens to reveal the original black and white photograph of a woman. At the top is a nice sized fluted bail which is perfect for hanging from a heavy Victorian chain. The locket has several English hallmarks on the back including the letter "g", an anchor, a lion and the letters "J&F.S". This locket is particularly large in size and a beautiful example of Victorian artistry. It would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 5/8" long, 1 5/8" wide and 1/2" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no serious damage to the silver, etched accents, or to the buckle design in the center. There is some normal surface wear and some dings to the silver on the back of the locket which is not unusual for a Victorian piece. The locket closes easily and securely.
