Victorian Huge Tortoise Shell Cross & Chain w/ 9kt gold
Now a banned material, Antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectable. This tortoise shell piece has a beautiful and bold look and is a wonderful example of antique tortoise shell jewelry. A gorgeous necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The chain consists of intricately carved tortoise shell links that connect to one another by a single small oval link. Attached in the center of the chain is a single tortoise ring which is where the huge ornate cross hangs from. The hand carved cross is simply wonderful with lovely detail at the points and an "x" shape of 9kt gold wire resting at the center. At the back of the chain are 10 extending tortoise links that attach to the hook closure. This beautiful necklace and pendant is very special and unusual and would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The tortoise chain measures approximately 21" long. The large links measure 1 1/8" long, 5/8" wide and a little less than 1/4" thick. The cross pendant measures approximately 3" tall, a little more than 2" at the widest point and 3/16" in depth.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace and pendant is great. There are minor chips in the tortoise chain as well as in the cross however they do not take away from the beauty of the piece. The hook clasp is secure and in good working condition.
