Victorian Large 15kt Banded Agate Snake Locket
The snake has been a powerful image since the Victorian era and continues to be popular even in modern jewelry. It has been an inspiration for jewelry design for ages, often used to symbolize eternity, everlasting love, life and protection.
This fabulous banded agate snake locket is from the Victorian (ca1880) era and is simply marvelous. The beautiful piece, which is oval in shape and particularly large in size, has a cabochon banded agate stone set in its center. The stone is bezel set in vibrant 15kt yellow gold, which displays a lovely coiled snake border that curls around the entire outer surface. The agate stone has gorgeous, rich black color with a thin white band around the outside. The locket hangs from a simple gold bail and the underside of the pendant reveals a glass-covered image of a Victorian woman. It's a gorgeous piece and would make a perfect addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 1/4" long, is 1 1/2" wide and 5/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting, glass covered locket or to the banded agate stone.
