Victorian Sterling Mixed Metals Floral Motif Locket

A fabulous sterling etched locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The wonderful piece is made of sterling silver and carries an ornate and intricate mixed metals design on the front. Oval in shape, the locket has a scalloped outer border that is lined with silver beads. In the center of the piece is a raised, 9kt yellow and rose gold flower which is accented with etched details. The flower is surrounded by a border of 14 flowers, which alternate rose gold applique with etched flowers. Rich in detail, the locket has a fantastic design on the front and the back is a simple smooth surface. The inside of the locket opens to reveal 2 black and white photographs. It hangs from a sterling fluted bail which is perfect for hanging from a long Victorian chain. On the back of the locket are several English hallmarks: "W&Co", the letter "C", along with an anchor and a lion. It is a wonderful example of Victorian artistry and would make a great addition to any collection!

Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 3/8" long, is 1 1/2" wide and 1/4" thick. The inside of the bail measures 3/8" long.

Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear and a few small dings on the back, there is no serious damage to the silver. The locket opens easily and stays securely closed.
