Victorian Huge 15kt Carnelian Fob Diam, Emeralds & Rubies
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.
An absolutely fantastic gold fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gorgeous piece is made of 15kt yellow gold and is detailed with emeralds, rubies, diamonds and a carnelian agate seal. The fob, which is particularly large in size, portrays a bundle of wheat that is bunched together at the stems by a gold crown. The crown is accented with 8 diamonds, 8 rubies and 4 emeralds which carry around each side of the piece. The fob hangs from a large, highly detailed "O" ring, that carries a complimentary garland design. The unusual gold figure rests atop a rectangular shaped carnelian stone that has a wonderful seal carved into it. The seal has the same bundle of wheat with the words "INVICTUS MANEO" below it. On each side of the carnelian fob is a gold ribbon-like border that again has the phrase "INVICTUS MANEO". Most likely of Scottish decent, this wonderful fob is very unusual and collectable. It's a very special piece and would make a stunning addition to any collection!
Measurements: The "O" ring measures approximately 1/2" in diameter. The fob hangs approximately 2 1/4" long, is 1" wide, and 1" thick. The carnelian fob measures approximately 7/8" long and 3/4" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the gold figure, or carnelian stone and all of the stones are intact.
