Shakudo is the use of mixed metal alloys and was originally used in Japanese armor and swords. Artisans would sometimes remove the Shakudo plaques from the armor and incorporate it into jewelry or art. It has become very collectible and quite unusual.

These beautiful earrings are a wonderful example of Shakudo and are from the Late Victorian (ca. 1900) era! Each earring is in the shape of a textured urn and depicts a different yet equally charming picture of a bird. Each earring is made of vibrant 14kt yellow and rose gold that overlap each other, creating a stunning design. The earrings, which have a 3-dimensional look, hang from a gold surmount which is attached to the earring wires. Very light and comfortable to wear, these marvelous earrings would be great worn day or night.

Measurements: Each earring hangs slightly less than 1 1/4" long, is slightly less than 1/2" at the widest point and measures 1/8" at its deepest point.

Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the gold. The surface of the gold has some natural patina which adds to the richness of the earrings.
