Shakudo is the use of mixed metal alloys and was originally used in Japanese armor and swords. Artisans would sometimes remove the Shakudo plaques from the armor and incorporate it into jewelry or art. It has become very collectible and quite unusual.

This fantastic pair of Shakudo cufflinks is a great example of this wonderful craft. Most likely from the Victorian period (ca1880), each cufflink depicts the ornate face of a devil with a silver bar back. The fantastic mixed metal plaques were most likely removed from a Japanese sword or armor and then attached to the silver cufflink backs. The Shakudo plaques have wonderful carved detail and are made of copper with mixed metal hues, including gold and silver. Connecting both sides is a 3-link silver chain that measures approximately 3/4" long. It's a wonderful and unusual pair of cufflinks and perfect for the Shakudo collector!

Measurements: Each devil face plaque measures slightly more than 5/8" wide and 3/4" tall and is approximately 1/8" thick. The silver bar back is a little more than 3/4" long, and 1/8" wide and 1/8" thick. 

Condition: The overall condition of the cufflinks is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the mixed metals devil faces or to the silver chain or back.
