Victorian Sterling Silver Micro Mosaic Bug Earrings
Wonderful micro mosaic earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Set in sterling silver, each earring depicts a detailed micro mosaic design with a lovely image of a single scarab beetle. Tiny tiles with vivid colors of glass have been hand set into the image of a scarab beetle which rests on a circular bed of white mosaic tiles with a lovely intricate border of red, white and blue stars. A delicate border of double twisted wire also surrounds the edge of the scarab. The beetle plaque hangs from twisted sterling wire that is bent in the center and hangs from a silver earring wire. Swinging from the bottom of the main plaque are two additional, smaller round micro mosaics. One hangs directly from the bottom, the other hangs from another bent and twisted wire. Both earring is marked on the back; please refer to the photos. The earrings are simply lovely and would make a great addition to any micro mosaic collection!
Measurements: Each earring hangs slightly less than 2 1/4" long, is 7/8" at the widest point and has a depth of a little less than 1/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. The mosaics are missing a few minor chips which is not uncommon for a Victorian micro mosaic piece but there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or to the wires.
