Vintage 14kt Gold Goose & Golden Egg Movable Charm
One of the best known of Aesop's Fables is the tale of the Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs. A cottager and his wife have a goose that lays one golden egg for them every day. Assuming that the goose must contain a great amount of gold in its inside, they decide to kill it. Once they have done so, they realize that the goose is no different from any other goose. The couple's greed destroyed the one thing that guaranteed them a small fortune everyday. Although a little harsh for a childrens fable, many find it to be a valuable lesson about selfishness, greed and indulgence.
This lovely vintage goose charm from the 1950's is the physical embodiment of this tale! Made of 14kt yellow gold, this piece is intricately carved and rich in detail with textured feathers and a detailed face. The body of the goose opens from within its legs to reveal a golden egg which falls from the internal compartment, hanging from a simple gold chain attached in its stomach. A gold jump ring attaches to the back of the goose which is where the goose hangs from a gold bail. The foot of the goose is stamped "14K". A beautiful charm, this would look great hanging as a charm on a bracelet or as a pendant from a chain.
Measurements: The goose measures approximately 5/8" tall, 7/8" at its widest point and has a depth of 1/4". The gold jump ring bail has a diameter of 1/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the charm is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold charm. The hidden egg compartment opens easily and stays securely closed and the chain is secure.
