Art Nouveau 14kt Gold & Enamel Locket w/ Diamond

SKU: 0166

Guilloché, in English usually Guillloche, is an engraving technique in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched into an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloche surface was then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design would show through the colorful enamel.

A simply magnificent Art Nouveau (ca1910) piece with wonderful detail! This locket has a stunning burgundy red enamel surface with a very intricate and detailed design etched beneath it. The locket is made of 14kt yellow gold and is octagonal in shape. The red enamel surface is set slightly deeper within the frame of the locket which is represented by a white enamel line. Below the enameling is a Guilloche etched design which rays out from the center along with gold scrolled details. In the center of locket is a single 20pt old Mine Cut diamond stone and a nice sized gold bail rests at the top. The piece opens to reveal a glass covered place for your favorite photograph. It's a fabulous and unusual piece from the Art Nouveau period and would make a wondeful addition to any collection!

Measurements: The locket pendant hangs approximately 1 1/4" long, is 7/8" wide and is 1/4" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no damage to the enamel or to the gold and the diamond is intact. It closes easily and securely. There is normal surface wear to the back of the locket which is not unusual for a locket from this period.
