Victorian Large Sterling & French Paste Cluster Pin

SKU: 7973

$295 $595

French paste is a Vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using real gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.

A fabulous French paste pin from the late Victorian (ca1900) era! This wonderful piece is very large in size and is encrusted with a cluster of 9 closed back paste stones which are set in silver. It has a 3-dimensional design which domes slightly inward in the middle. On the back of the piece is a large pin clasp with the original 'c-catch' clasp. It's a fabulous and fun piece for any collector!

Measurements: The paste pin measures a little less than 2" at the widest point, 1 3/4" tall and is 3/8" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the pin is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the silver setting and the pin clasp is secure and in good working condition. There is a small chip in the corner of one of the outer paste stones and some surface wear to the center stone which is not unusual for a piece of this age.
