During the 1930’s, European interest in Indian culture became very popular Traveling to India became easier throughout the country on the Darjeeling Express and the wealthy tourists brought back vibrant jewelry adorned with ruby, emerald and sapphire stones. Enamored with the bejeweled elephants of Jaipur, they returned to Paris with their jewels having Cartier transform the colorful gems into fine jewelry. Carved sapphires, emeralds and rubies were engraved in naturalistic leaf, flower and berry motifs and attached to pave diamond stems. This new style of colorful Indian jewelry was featured in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar as the “very height of fashion."

These Art Deco Cartier like earrings are from the 1930's and are a great representation of the colors of India. Adorned with gorgeous hues reminiscent of rubies, sapphires and emeralds, these beautiful earrings are decorated with carved Czechoslovakian glass and hand set in a sterling silver setting. The Czech glass is hand carved into the shapes of luscious flowers and leaves and are accented by the sparkling marcasite stones which are also set within the earrings. The earrings have the original screw backs posts which sit behind a single ruby colored glass flower. Beautiful and vibrant Art Deco earrings!

Measurements: Each earring measures approximately 2 1/4" from the top of red flower post to bottom of earring, 7/8" at the widest point and 1/8" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the silver or to the glass and the screw back posts are secure and in good working condition.
