Art Deco Sterling Oxblood Coral & Marcasite Pendant w/ Chain
A lovely oxblood and marcasite necklace from the Art Deco (ca1920s) era! Made of sterling silver, the piece is comprised of an ornate pendant and complimentary sterling chain. The pendant is particularly large in size and oval in shape, featuring an attractive cutout pattern throughout which is detailed with fine milgrained work and sparkling marcasite stones. Resting in the very center of the pendant is a large cabochon oxblood coral stone. The coral has a wonderful, rich color and a smoothly polished finish and is held within a sterling bezel. At the top of the piece is a decorative bail that matches the design of the piece. The pendant is convex, with the coral cabochon resting at the highest point. Surrounding the coral are twelve marcasite stones in arrow shaped settings, creating the appearance of a lively sunburst. The pendant hangs from a chain made of sterling silver and consists of sections of delicate chain separated by 4 rectangular filigree links. The chain fastens together at the back with a simple spring ring clasp marked "925". A beautiful piece with a wonderful Art Deco look, it would make a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurements: The chain measures approximately 27" long. The large, center pendant measures hangs 2 1/4" long, is 1 1/8" wide and has a depth of 1/2".
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting or to the coral and marcasite stones, all of which are intact. The bail is intact and the spring ring clasp is in good working condition.
