Guilloché, in English usually Guilloche, is an engraving technique in in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched into an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloche surface was then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design would show through the colorful enamel.

An absolutely fantastic Guilloché enamel whistle from the late Art Deco (ca1930) era! This lovely and unusual piece is made of sterling silver and has an elongated oval shape. The surface of the piece displays a beautiful white enameled design and has textured Guilloché engraving which shows incredibly intricate etch work below the enamel. Three curved rows of beautiful gold applique floral garland can be found framing the top and bottom of the face, along with above the whistle opening. The whistle hangs from a sterling bail and the back side is smooth sterling with the markings "STERLING", "4499" and what appears to have been a makers mark with the letter "B", all of which are slightly rubbed off. A functioning whistle, the piece look fabulous worn hanging from a long sterling chain and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!

Measurements: The whistle pendant hangs approximately 2 1/4" long, is 1 1/8" wide and 1/8" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the whistle is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or to the enameling and the whistle is in working order.
