A lovely platinum and diamond Welsh watch from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! This fabulous watch has a narrow, rectangular-shaped watch face made of platinum, with an attractive black enamel border. Set at the top and bottom of the watch face are four old European Cut diamonds, which are set in a pointed arch-shaped platinum setting lined with milgrained detail. The right and left edges of the watch face have been enhanced with beautiful engraving in a flowing design. The clock belly has a cream colored face with black numbers, and at the top center is the maker name “WELSH”. The band of the watch is made of a doubled black cord, which is attached to a folding platinum push clasp. The underside of the watch face is stamped with the initials “J.M.B.” and the inside of the clasp is stamped "KREISLER-DURC-BRITE". The watch would fit a very small wrist, but it could be easily attached to another band to accommodate varying wrist sizes. It's a very special piece that looks spectacular when worn. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurement: The watch face measures approximately 1 3/8" tall from hinge to hinge, approximately 1/2" wide, and has a depth of 1/4". The inside of the watch band (where wrist would rest) measures approximately 2" wide and 1 3/4" tall (approximately 6" in length wrapped around your wrist).
Condition: The overall condition of the watch is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the platinum or the enamel and all of the diamonds are intact. Watches of this era should be cleaned and oiled periodically as part of proper maintenance.
