Fantastic amethyst earrings from the Art Nouveau (ca1900) era! Originating from Austria or Hungary, they have a very elaborate look and display exceptional artistry. Swirls of gilded sterling silver form a wonderful and ornate floral and leave design and surround a large, faceted oval amethyst stone in the center. The amethyst has a beautiful, eye catching purple hue and is held within a bezel setting. Below the amethyst is an attractive black and white enamel design that is reminiscent of elongated flower petals and above the stone is a gorgeous emerald stone held within a pinched belcher setting. The earrings hang from beautiful toppers, which are accented by an additional emerald stone and a black and white enamel design. The contrast between the purple amethyst and the emerald stones is simply beautiful. The back of each earring is stamped "935," and the top of each earring is attached to a simple earring wire. They look marvelous when worn and would make an impressive addition to any collection!
Measurements: The earrings hang 2 5/8" long, are 7/8" wide, and 3/8" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gilded silver or to the enamel work, and the amethyst and emerald stones are all intact.
