A beautiful locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era. This sterling silver locket has the wonderful raised image of a beautiful, smiling woman. The picture is intricately detailed with long flowing locks of hair, a romantic expression on her face and lovely flowers in her hair. The surface of the silver has a wonderful natural patina which adds to the richness of the color. The locket is particularly large in size and hangs from a large round bail. It opens from the bottom to reveal a space for a special photograph. It is also marked on the inside "STERLING", "1578", along with 2 hallmarks. A beautiful work of art, this locket would look lovely worn alone or with other lockets and pendants!
Measurements: The locket has a diameter of a little less than 2 1/4" and is 3/4" at the thickest point. The bail has a diameter of 3/8".
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. The locket closes easily and securely. There is some normal surface wear and a couple small dents on the back of the locket which is not unusual for a Victorian piece.
