A beautiful sterling locket from the Art Nouveau (ca1900) era! This unusual sterling silver locket has a fantastic look and depicts the image of a single, large pansy flower. The pansy has a 3-dimensional look and is intricately decorated with layered petals and etched details. The locket, which is particularly large in size, has a wonderful natural patina on the surface which adds to the richness of the color. It opens from the bottom to reveal a black and white photograph of a baby. The piece is marked several times: "STERLING" on the bail as well as twice on the inside along with the phrase "PAT PEND'G". A beautiful work of art, this locket would look lovely worn alone or with other lockets and pendants!
Measurements: The locket hangs a little less than 2 1/8" long, is 1 1/2" at the widest point and has a depth of 1/2".
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. The locket opens easily and stays securely closed. There is some normal surface wear to the silver which is not unusual for a Victorian piece. There is also a small nick on the front of the flower which is hardly noticeable when the piece is worn.
