Art Nouveau French Brass, Silver & Art Glass Insect Necklace
An artistic and very unusual French necklace from the Art Nouveau (ca1900) era! This unique piece hangs from a brass link chain and features an elaborate silver and art glass centerpiece below. The centerpiece is quite large in size, and depicts a soft and feminine floral and branch design. The surface has a shimmery metallic finish represented by silver colored branches and gold colored leaves. Accenting the branch design are two life-like insects made of iridescent art glass, topped with metal wings. One insects sits perched atop the branches, while the other dangles freely below. The insects are crafted with a realistic 3-dimensional appearance and the color of each is phenomenal. When moved in the light, their bodies exhibit fabulous iridescent flashes of deep blue, purple, and green hues. The insects are set atop silver frames, and their faces and wings are made of silver topped with shimmery metallic hues. Also set within the design are 2 glass flowers which are clear with a frosted appearance. The necklace fastens with a simple spring clasp in the back, and the underside of the piece is stamped with the French patent phrase "DEPOSE" on each bug. This unique necklace has a marvelous, unusual design that would make a very special, one-of-a-kind addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The entire necklace measures 18" long. The centerpiece measures approximately 4 1/2" wide, 3" long and is 1/2" at the thickest point.
