Art Nouveau Sterling Plique A Jour Chain 56"

SKU: 30685

"Plique A Jour" is a French term that means "braid letting in daylight". The term refers to the technique in which enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing. This allows light to shine through the transparent or translucent enamel and form a beautiful stained glass like appearance.

A lovely and unusual Plique-a-Jour and sterling silver chain from the Art Nouveau (ca1900) era! This fabulous chain is made of sterling silver and has 6 ornate rectangular shaped links alternating with fine silver chain. Each sterling link has an exquisite and vibrant plique-a-jour blue enamel design with a stained glass-like framed design in the center. In the middle of the chain is a sterling watch swivel clasp, which makes it possible to double the chain or to attach a complimentary pendant or locket. It's a beautifully made piece and would make a lovely addition to any jewelry collection!

Measurements: The chain necklace measures 56" long. Each rectangular shaped link is approximately 3/8" wide and 3/4" tall.

Condition: The overall condition of the chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to any of the plique-a-jour or sterling links and the clasp is intact and in good working condition.
