A fantastic and unusual opal necklace from the Art Nouveau (ca1900) era! This beautiful piece is comprised of a single teardrop shaped opal that hangs from an ornate platinum and diamond chain. The teardrop opal, which is particularly large in size, is held within a stunning platinum cap that has a crown like design detailed with old Rose Cut diamonds. The opal itself weighs approximately 45ctw and is absolutely mesmerizing, with a pale translucent hue that reveals vibrant flashes of green, blue, yellow, pink and orange. The opal hangs from an incredible platinum link which has a lovely swirled floral motif complete with diamond flower petals and leaves within a milgrained filigree frame. The large pendant hangs from a complimentary platinum chain which is comprised of delicate open links that alternate with natural seed pearls and bezel set diamonds. A simple spring clasp fastens together at the back of the chain. It's a spectacular piece and would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The chain of the necklace measures 30" long. The dangling pendant hangs 3" long. The teardrop opal itself measures 1 1/2" long, is 5/8" wide at the bottom and 5/16" wide at the top.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace and pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the platinum setting or to the opal, and all of the diamonds and pearls are intact. The clasp of the chain is secure and in good working condition.
