Victorian Hand Carved Jet & French Paste Snake Bracelet
The snake has been a powerful image since the Victorian era and continues to be popular even in modern jewelry. It has been an inspiration for jewelry design for ages, often used to symbolize eternity, everlasting love, life and protection.
A fabulous and funky snake bracelet from the Victorian era! This unique piece is made of jet and comprised of faceted, carved links that form a unique bracelet. The faceted links represent the snake's body and at the center of the bracelet is a large link carved to look like a snake's head and tail coming together to meet in the middle. The head of the snake is decorated with sparkling French paste stones that form a vertical row traveling down its neck. A carved slit represents the mouth and two smaller French paste stones depict the snake's eyes. The contrast between the rich black color of the Jet and the sparkling stones makes a bold statement. The links are strung on black elastic cord, making it comfortable to wear. An unusual piece, it would be great for everyday wear, and would look fantastic worn alone or paired with other complimentary bracelets!
Measurements: Without being stretched, the inside opening of the bracelet (where a wrist would rest) has a diameter of approximately 2 1/4" across. Each faceted jet link measures 1/2" long, is 3/8" wide and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is great. There is some minor normal surface wear on the inside of a few of the jet links, but they are not visible when worn and there are no large chips or scratches. All of the paste stones are intact and the links are securely strung.
