Retro Hand Carved End of Day Bakelite Earrings

SKU: 20314

Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non-conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as kids' toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bright, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated amongst many.

Unique carved Bakelite earrings from the Retro (ca1940) era! Each earring begins with a Bakelite bead topper, which has a sunburst-like design carved into its front and connects to the earring post. Dangling from the surmount is a Bakelite bead that has the same sunburst design carved into its front, as well as its back. A thin bar is riveted through the center of the ball, connecting the topper to the largest link of the earrings. Swinging from the center link is a long teardrop shaped, carved Bakelite piece, which carries a wonderful hand carved design and an open center. The "End of Day" Bakelite has striking color with swirling hues of forest green and burnt orange. These stunning earrings are in beautiful condition and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!

Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 2 1/2" long, measures slightly less than 1" at its widest point, and has a depth of 1/4".

Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the Bakelite or to the earring posts.
