An absolutely outstanding pair of dramatic "day and night" earrings from the Georgian (ca1830) era! These fantastic earrings are made of 18kt yellow gold, and are particularly large in size. With a wonderfully elaborate appearance, the design allows them to be transformed from very simple "day" earrings to a more ornate and long "night" earring. Each earring begins with a gold ellipse shaped topper, which is hollow and has a hammered diamond pattern on the front surface. These 'day' toppers rest at the base of European back earring wires, which fasten at the top in the front. A long, but very light "night" link hangs from the "day" topper, which can be easily removed from the wires as desired for two completely different looks. The "night" section has a draped floral garland design, which has hand engraved accents and a royal Roman appearance. Three decorative gold links dangle freely from the bottom of each earring. Despite their impressive size, the earrings are wonderfully lightweight and comfortable to wear. They look absolutely fabulous when worn and would make an incredible addition to any collection!
Measurements: Each 'night' earring hangs approximately 3 7/8" long, is 1 1/2" at the widest point and has a depth of 1/16". When worn as 'day' earrings, each hangs approximately 1 1/8" long, is 1/2" wide and has a depth of 3/16".
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting. The European wires are secure and in good working condition
