French paste is a vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.

A beautiful pair of French paste and diamond earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! These lovely earrings are made of 14kt yellow gold and have a simple yet stunning design. Most likely changed from their original design, each earring adorns a sparkling French paste stone which hangs below a diamond topper. The pairing of the paste stones and diamonds is beautiful, as the two compliment each other perfectly! The diamonds weigh approximately 0.15ct each and are held in an open backed bezel setting, which attaches to a simple clasped gold earring wire. Each paste stone is held in a 6-prong setting and dangles freely inside an open yellow gold circle, forming a halo around the stone. The paste stones sparkle beautifully and could certainly pass as real diamond stones. The earrings are absolutely gorgeous and would look perfect worn everyday or for special occasions!

Measurement: Each earring hangs 1" long and is 3/8" at its widest point.

Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the gold setting and the paste and diamond stones are all intact. The clasped earring wires are secure and in good working condition.
