Victorian Exceptional Hand Carved Ivory Bird Earrings
Absolutely incredible carved ivory earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Each of these wonderful earrings is made of hand carved ivory and portrays an exquisite image of of a bird surrounded by an ivy leaf frame. Beautifully ornate and in nearly perfect condition, the earrings have a 3-dimensional and realistic design with an open winged bird at the center. Behind each bird is a finely carved background of small branches and the bird stands atop a tree branch which carries into earthy frame. An ivy vine rests atop the branch and carries around the entire frame and the tree branch finishes at the top in a looped figure-8 shape. The earrings hang from an ivory bead surmount which attaches to simple 14kt gold wires. The larger link appears to have been carved from a single piece of ivory and the workmanship is exceptional. Truly a work of art, these marvelous earrings would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 2 5/8" long, is 1 1/8" at the widest point and 1/4" in depth.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Amazing, besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the carved ivory earrings or to the earring wires.
