Victorian Sterling and Carved Feldspar Acorn Earrings
Feldspars are a family of rock-forming minerals which make up as much as 60% of the Earth's crust. Feldspars crystalize from magma as veins and are present in many types of metamorphic rock as well as sedimentary rock. The Feldspar family includes moonstones, amazonite and labradorite.
A charming pair of sterling and feldspar earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! These soft, feminine earrings begin with sterling toppers in an ornate spiral-shaped design. There is a small sterling ball attached to the top and in the center of each spiral, and below the surmount are sterling curls which rest on either side of a swinging bail. Dangling from the bottom is a beautiful carved acorn made of feldspar. The acorns have an iridescent appearance with a pearlized white sheen which is difficult to see in the pictures. Very light and comfortable to wear, these wonderful earrings would make a marvelous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The earrings hang a little less than 2" long, are 1/2" at the widest point and have a depth of 3 1/2".
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the sterling toppers or the feldspar acorns, and the earring wires are secure and intact.
