Victorian Large 15kt Gold & Rock Quartz Crystal Fob

SKU: 36613

A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

This beautiful and ornate fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era is exceptional! Made of 15kt yellow gold (indicating English origin), this large, decorative piece has a wonderful swirled frame and elaborate topper. Resting at the base of the fob is a faceted rock quartz crystal stone, which is very large and held within an oval bezel setting. Curved gold bars form an open cage-like frame around the top of the quartz crystal. The topper is comprised of a hinged gold handle with a swirled gold design, and a large ring at the top of the piece allows it to be easily hung from a chain. This exquisite fob is absolutely stunning and crafted with exemplary detail. Perfect for any fob collector, it would make an outstanding addition to any collection!

Measurements: The fob hangs 2 1/4" long. The base that holds the rock quartz crystal measures approximately 1 1/8" long and 1" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the carved rock quartz crystal, which is intact.
