Absolutely incredible cantile wirework earrings from the Georgian (ca1830) period. These fantastic earrings are made of 14kt gold and are particularly large in size. With a magnificent and royal-looking appearance, each earring is covered with very fine cantile wirework throughout. The beautiful earrings can be transformed from simple "day" earrings to a more dramatic and long "night" earring. Each earring begins with a gold repousse leaf center that is surrounded by a wide cantile wirework frame. These 'day' toppers rest at the base of European back earring wires, which fasten in the front. A long, but very light "night" link hangs from the "day" part which also carries the complimentary wirework design. The underside of the earring is completely comprised of cantile wirework and scrolled gold repousse plaques rest atop the design. The "night" section of the earring can be easily removed from the wires as desired for 2 completely different looks. The cantile wirework is intricately layered, forming very ornate and unusual earrings. They are simply marvelous earrings and would be perfect for a special occasion and are a must-have for a collector!
Measurements: Each 'night' earring hangs approximately 3 1/2" long at the longest point, is 1 1/8" at the widest point and has a depth of a little more than 3/8". When worn as 'day' earrings, each hangs approximately 1 1/4" long, is 5/8" at the widest point and has a depth of 1/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Due to the very fine nature of the earrings, there is some normal, but minor damage to the gold wirework, however, this is not apparent when the earrings are worn. A natural patina appears on the surface of the gold which adds to the rich look of the earrings. The European wires are secure and in good working condition
