An absolutely incredible cross pendant from the Georgian (ca1750) era! This wonderful piece is very large in size and adorns 21 natural sapphire stones which are set in sterling silver. The cross in magnificently ornate and extravagant looking with a fine sterling setting and scrolled wirework. Seven of the sapphire stones are faceted and round in shape and bezel set in sterling silver balls placed throughout the cross. Thirteen of the sapphires are set within the center of the cross and the remaining single stone rests on the front of the bail. The sapphires are all natural stones and have been hand cut and set. A very special piece, this pendant would make a wonderful addition to any Georgian jewelry collection!
Measurement: The cross measures a little less than 1 1/2" at its widest, hangs approximately 2 7/8" long and has a depth of a little less than 3/8".
Condition: The overall condition of this piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no damage to the sterling setting and the bail is secure and in good working condition. There is some wear and a few minor chips in the surface of a few of the sapphire stones which is not unusual for a piece from this age and are not noticeable when worn.
