Victorian Gold-Filled Mixed Metals Aesthetic Movement Locket
An incredibly lovely mixed metals locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This beautiful gold-filled piece is round in shape and has a wonderful aesthetic movement design on the front. The image is intricately detailed and depicts a blooming floral motif with flowing etched detail, scrolled accents, hanging leaves, and a small bird in flight. Beautiful rose gold and green gold accents give the mixed metals piece wonderful dimension. The precise, intricate detail is truly exceptional and makes the image come to life! The locket opens from the top to reveal spaces to store two special photographs inside. The inside of the locket is signed "GOLD SHELL", "Elgin", and "AMERICAN MFG. CO." along with the serial number "18263." On the back of the locket is an engraved set of monogrammed initials in flowing cursive script. The piece hangs from a simple bail at the top and would look perfect worn on a gold chain. A beautifully made locket, it would make a very special addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 1 5/8" long, has a diameter of 1 1/4" and is 3/16" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides minimal normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold-filled setting or mixed metals image. The locket opens and closes easily and securely, and the bail is intact.
