A fabulous locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This unusual piece is made of 14kt yellow gold and oval in shape. The front face is adorned with a raised heart shaped plaque that has a vibrant red enamel surface. The locket has a beveled edge border on both sides and the back has a smooth face. The locket opens on the side to reveal a two glass covered frames with a black and white photograph on one side. At the top of the locket is fluted bail that is fairly large in size. It's an absolutely lovely piece and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurement: The locket hangs approximately 2 3/8" long, is a little less than 1 1/2" at its widest and has a depth of 3/8". The bail measures a little less than 1/2" long.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the enameled heart or to the gold. The locket closes easily and securely however there is a very small space at the bottom of the seam when the piece is closed. There is some normal surface wear to the gold, which is not unusual for a piece from the Victorian era.
