Product Details

A wonderful tortoise shell necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Now a banned material, antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectible. This fantastic piece has a beautiful and bold look and is an exceptional example of Victorian tortoise shell jewelry. The chain consists of oval tortoise shell anchor links that connect to one another through two holes in the center of each. This common Victorian link is what the modern "Gucci link" was replicated from. The rich tortoise shell varies in color, with wonderful deep brown, caramel and amber hues. The chain comes together at a tortoise shell padlock, which has a heart shaped design and is set within a gilded sterling ornate wirework cap. A small keyhole on the front of the pendant adds a perfect finishing touch and the handle of the padlock acts as the clasp, connecting the two strands of chain together. This beautiful necklace is very unusual and looks simply fabulous when worn. It is perfect for everyday wear and would make a fabulous addition to any collection!

Measurements: The chain measures approximately 30" long. Each anchor link measures 1/2" long, is 5/16" wide and 1/8" thick. The padlock pendant hangs 2 1/4" long, is 1 1/4" wide and 3/16" at its thickest point.

Condition: The overall condition of the chain and lock pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there are no apparent chips in the tortoise chain or pendant and the clasp is secure and in good working condition.
