Retro Carved Bakelite Beaded Necklace

SKU: 28406

Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non-conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as kids' toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bright, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated amongst many.

A wonderful beaded Bakelite necklace from the Retro (ca1940) period! This simple yet stunning piece is comprised of 2 strands of graduating deep orange Bakelite beads, which are strung on white thread. The layered strands are nested with the longest at the bottom and the shortest on top, creating a beautiful, multi-dimensional look. The beads themselves have deep yellow-orange color and a Geometric faceted surface. Resting in between each is simple contrasting wooden bead and at the back is the screw-in clasp which is hidden as one of the beads. This funky piece has a fun, bold look and would make a classic addition to any collection!

Measurements: The longest strand measures slightly more than 19" long. The shortest measures approximately 16.75".

Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the Bakelite beads or to the clasp, which is secure and in good working condition.
