Victorian 14kt Gold "Pax Quaeritur Bello" Signet Ring

A signet ring can be represented with an intaglio, which is created by carving below the surface of a stone, or by a simple smooth seal. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A stunning and unusual gold signet ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of vibrant 14kt yellow gold, the ring has a large oval-shaped face with a carved intaglio center. At the center of the signet is a fierce dragon with an open mouth and a shell-like shape held within its hands. Beneath the dragon is the phrase "Pax Quaeritur Bello" which means 'Peace is Sought by War'. The band graduates in width and has a simple, smooth surface. The shank is stamped "14K" and the on the back of the signet are hand engraved initials along with a the date "Aug 20, 32". This incredible ring is simply stunning and would look wonderful worn by a woman or a man!

Measurements: The ring has a large finger size of 6.5 but could easily be re-sized.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the gold setting or to the signet design.
